FSF Cymru Liaison
My Role...
FSF Cymru was set up in 2003 by National Council (N.C) development officer Steven Powell, he set up the very first welsh fans embassies in Milan, Moscow and Baku. During this time a sub-committee was formed by Steven and due to his heavy work load he handed over control to the chairman Mike Bailey and the rest of the committee members. Mike continued the good work set up by Steven and successfully setting up fans embassies at all Wales's world cup games, and a friendly with Cyprus.
Unfortunately although Wales away support continues to grow Mike and Peter were left fairly isolated as the supporters who had initially volunteered to help could not continue for various reasons. They then asked for help from the N.C before it became to much for them.
National Council contacted all affiliated clubs and independent members with a Welsh address and consequently I and several other FSF members from the South West division helped to re-form the sub-committee at an EGM in Llandrindod Wells in early February 2006. (big thanks to ken for his hard work and effort).
I was then elected as Liason officer to the N.C then co-opted onto N.C on February 19th, and the new F.S.F Cymru sub-committee was ratified by N.C at the same meeting.
My role is to provide progress, reports and information on how F.S.F Cymru is doing to N.C, also to obtain information updates and advice from N.C for example, Kevin Miles experience in running fans embassies will be invaluable, and we will certainly be looking to mirror image the fans embassies run at England international matches.
Our main aim is to give added security to fans who travel to watch Wales away, and pass relevant information to them before and during the trip. We also are aiming to raise the profile of the FSF at Wales's home matches by handing out free brochures similar to the free lions.
We hope to also unite Welsh fans by putting inter-club rivalries to one side when Wales play.
