The next meeting of the Southern Division of the Football Supporters’ Federation will take place at The Shrimpers Bar, Southend United Football Club – Roots Hall, on Sunday 15th November 2009.
The meeting will start at noon and a working lunch will be provided to feed the masses. Click here for directions to Roots Hall, further details are provided at the bottom of the page as there has been some recent disruption to rail services. The Shrimpers Bar is at the top end of the ground, go down some steps (next to the turnstiles) and the entrance is in front of you.
As well as the usual subjects to be covered, such as individual club reports and feedback from national council meetings, the Southern Division will also be looking at some high profile issues that have made the news recently:
- Back to the 80’s? Is hooliganism returning with a vengeance or are we just seeing police over-reaction before a World Cup?
- Should we break the window? What difference has the transfer window made to football? Should we look at relaxing or scrapping the transfer window and what about for loan moves?
- Has TV killed football as we know it? Or does football need the money that TV brings. What can we reasonably want and expect from the TV companies?
Directions
Those travelling in by car from M25 take junction 29 and follow the A127 to Southend. Continue towards the town centre, through the lights near to the Bell Pub. At the next roundabout turn right (3rd turning), continuing on the A127. The ground is on the right just past the next traffic lights.
At the time of writing, there are no trains running from Liverpool Street to Prittlewell and you will need to go to Southend Central which is served by trains from London Fenchurch Street. Southend Central is about a 25 minute walk from the ground.
The main bus station is close to Southend Central so it may be advisable to get a bus to the ground.

The Arriva bus numbers 7, 8, 9 and 29 all stop outside Roots Hall whilst First Bus numbers 20 ,21 and 25 also arrive at the stadium, but check Sunday service details.
