 Safe standing receives welcome boost

Safe standing receives welcome boost

1st October 2008

It's been a very good month for the FSF, we've long campaigned for the introduction of safe standing into the top two flights of English football and we're seeing progress on this. In a significant vote for British football fans the Liberal Democrats chose to back safe standing at their annual conference, becoming the first mainstream party to do so in the process.

We've talked about this before at length in FanMail before but we really do feel it's a very positive sign that a mainstream political party are backing this, and we congratulate them for it.

Well done also to the FanMail readers who got in touch with their local Lib Dem party reps and asked them to vote on the issue as well. Word from inside the party tells us that they received so many emails and letters that a briefing note went round all their MP's outlining the issues - there is no doubt FSF members made a difference.

If you want to get involved with the FSF's safe standing campaign, email Phill Gatenby, or if you'd like to read a bit more about it, click here.
