FSF Northeast want your views on policing

FSF Northeast want your views on policing

19th September 2008

Football fans using their mobiles to film the police filming them have become a common sight in recent seasons.

But the Football Supporters’ Federation will be asking Sunderland and Middlesbrough fans to put their mobiles to much better use at Saturday’s Wear-Tees derby.

Following complaints from supporters about policing at last season’s derby games, the Northeast branch of the FSF will be promoting a unique Policewatch at the Sunderland vs Middlesbrough fixture.

For the first time in Premier League history, fans will actually get have their say on policing and stewarding as they experience it first hand, on the day of the game.

Thousands of leaflets will be distributed to both Sunderland and Middlesbrough supporters by FSF Northeast division members prior to the Wear-Tees derby at the Stadium of Light on Saturday, September 20.

These will offer the opportunity to text experiences - be they positive or negative - to the FSF Policewatch number 07599 842 477, fans can also email us at policewatch@fsf.org.uk.

All comments, both positive and negative, will be held in the strictest confidence and form the basis of discussions between the FSF and both Cleveland and Northumbria police forces, aimed at ensuring everyone can enjoy derby matches to the maximum.

The division hope to repeat the process across all Northeast derby matches, and are especially interested in the experiences of away support.

If you would like to get involved, or hear more on the Northeast division e-mail the Northeast division secretary, Ginnette Bentley.

We also offer information for supporters on fans' rights at a football match.
