Following the coalition government’s pledge to scrap unnecessary and “nannying” laws which restrict our rights the Your Freedom website was launched. The site gives the public the opportunity to tell government which laws and regulations they think should be scrapped – and as football fans we certainly have a couple we would like to see repealed:
These are laws which only apply to football fans, why should we be criminalised in such a manner?
Take your beer into the stand at a football game and you’re likely to find yourself frogmarched to the nearest cell, cautioned, being slapped with a football banning order (unless you're Mike Ashley, see pic). Visit a pop concert or rugby league match at the very same stadium though and you’ll have no such problems. Why is that you can cheerfully drink at Headingley whilst watching the cricket or rugby but not at Elland Road?
Come October though tens of thousands will be drinking at Wembley Stadium while watching the football, American football that is, when the San Francisco Giants play the Denver Broncos. Football is our national sport and Wembley is its domestic home yet we are actively discriminated against when compared to followers of other sports. How is that right?
Similarly why is it OK for you to have a can in a coach to or from any form of sport or entertainment OTHER than football? It is another unjustified intrusion on individual rights to do what pleases, so long as it doesn’t affect others.
