With almost one-third of the Premier League season gone Chelsea sit atop the pile and face mid-table Sunderland at Stamford Bridge this Sunday. The reigning champions’ home record makes for impressive reading. Five games, maximum points, 17 goals and not one conceded. The home side are unsurprisingly heavy favourites for the win at 1/5 but will the Blues concede?
Petr Cech’s clean sheet to Fulham in midweek was their ninth in a row at home in the league breaking a club record set in 1927. Chelsea are 8/13 to keep a clean sheet on Sunday – if you fancy Sunderland to end this run Asamoah Gyan is likely to be their only starter to have scored a Premier League goal this season and is available at 9/1 first scorer. Darren Bent is out injured and the Black Cats third top scorer is OG.
Elsewhere in the top-flight Saturday’s early kick-off sees Villa take on Manchester United at home. It will be the first time Gerard Houllier has locked horns with Sir Alex Ferguson since leaving Anfield in 2004. As Liverpool manager Houllier achieved five successive victories against United between 2000 and 2002 and only Arsene Wenger has more Premier League managerial wins against the Red Devils.
However, United haven’t lost at Villa Park in 15 years - a defeat which prompted Hansen’s infamous “You’ll win nothing with kids” quip - and are unbeaten in the league for a whopping seven months.
Villa can be backed at 7/2 while the away side are a little under evens at 17/20. The home side’s rotating strike force means no striker is especially short odds for first scorer. Agbonlahor is available at 15/2 to bag his first league goal of the season while Nathan Delfouneso, who scored against Blackpool on Wednesday, is a little longer at 8/1.

In the Blue Square Premier pre-season title favourites Luton Town have remained in North Wales following Thursday’s defeat at Wrexham to prepare for Saturday’s game at Altrincham. The home side will see Luton’s poor away record as a weakness going into this game, but are priced accordingly at 3/1. An away win for the Bedfordshire side is a best priced 8/11 with Blue Square.
Current favourites Crawley Town had a free midweek and will be fresh for their long trip to Darlington who are on a four game winning streak. The Quakers are 7/4 to make it five from five, with Crawley offered at 5/4.
