Hull City back safe standing

Hull City are the latest club to back the FSF’s Safe Standing Campaign with owner and vice-chairman Ehab Allam saying that the KC Stadium should be a place “for every type of fan”. The club’s media and marketing manager George Hudson backed the Safe Standing Campaign on local stations BBC Radio Humberside and WHCR FM.

“It [safe standing] is definitely something we are supportive of and we are talking to Hull City Official Supporters’ Club (HSOSC). We believe there should be a place for every type of fan at the KC Stadium,” said Mr Allam.

Speaking to WHCR FM, Hull City media and marketing manager George Hudson said: “We’ve been working with HSOSC for around a year and I’ve been personally researching safe standing. Tomorrow we’ll be announcing that we’re supporting the Safe Standing Campaign on behalf of Hull City fans. Thanks to the fans who put the effort in lots of people canvassed me at the Bristol City match.”

Back in February the Safe Standing Roadshow visited Hull City for a league game against Bristol City. The event was organised by HSOSC with the co-operation of the stadium management company and the full support of the club’s fanzines – Amber Nectar, City Independent and Vital Hull.

HSOSC said the club’s decision was “tremendous” while City Independent’s Ian Waterson described it as “magnificent” and said 100% of the fans on its forum were behind this and the Safe Standing Campaign.

Amber Nectar’s Andy Dalton said: “There’s a rare outbreak of agreement among all City fans on this! It’s a straightforward matter of choice, if you want to sit, that’s fine, there’s plenty of seats for you. But for those who do wish to stand why on earth should there not be the option? It’s a positive step that the club have listened to that.”

HSOSC’s Chris Smith told the Hull Daily Mail that the match day experience would improve if safe standing areas were introduced and backed “rail seat” technology as a possible solution.

“During some matches, we have a problem with lack of atmosphere. It can sometimes feel like a library at the KC. We feel safe standing terraces would go some way to improving the atmosphere. There is definitely support from Hull City for a trial of a standing area. It [the Safe Standing Roadshow] was extremely popular with fans” said Mr Smith.

Well done Hull City and all the fans at the club who helped make this happen.
