Peterborough United have come up with a unique season ticket offer for some of their Posh fans to enjoy – a £15,000 one-off “Chairman’s Choice” package offers seats in the director’s box for every home fixture and the title of “honourary director” for a year.
They are also offering a limited number of “Lifetime Season Tickets”, which will grant entry to every fixture at London Road for the next 75 years – yours for just £12,000.
As well as taking your seat in the director’s box each week and all the trappings that go with it, such as the pre-match food, you will have the opportunity to attend an away fixture as a guest of a club director and receive the appropriate boardroom treatment on the road, too. You’ll also get a meeting with the first team.
The Lifetime Season Tickets are limited to a supply of 50, and any Posh fans who snap them up will gain entry to London Road for only £160 a season. In case you were wondering, the tickets can be transferred to other family members or third parties throughout their lifetime, so they’re not being limited to just one individual.
Now while we’re usually quick to bash clubs for charging ludicrous amounts for season tickets, we’ve always been in favour of ‘price elasticity’, where the top-range packages are charged at an appropriate level. If companies, corporations or rich individuals want to indulge in top-price prawn-sandwich activity then that’s fine by us, so long as the extra revenue generated means that prices for ordinary supporters are kept down.
Despite the eye-watering amounts on offer for this small selection of tickets, Peterborough have guaranteed to freeze their ordinary season ticket prices for next season, regardless of which division the club find themselves in. In addition, those who buy season tickets this year will have a two year price freeze guaranteed if they subsequently renew. That’s good news in anyone’s book.
The cheapest season ticket for an adult at London Road starts at £275 (or £11.96 per match), while under-16s can get theirs for £70. Under-10s, if accompanied by an adult, get in for free in the family stand. As is typically the case these prices are subject to an early-bird renewal deadline (the 18th April in Peterborough’s case), but even thereafter the prices only rise to £325 and £85 respectively.
With clubs ever-mindful of the strained economic times we find ourselves in we’re seeing more and more inventive ticket schemes and initiatives to get bums on seats. Anything that helps keep the cost of attending matches down gets a thumbs up from us.
