The largest ground in Italy (current capacity just over 80,000), the San Siro was constructed in the mid 1920s as a home for AC Milan. Its first match, in 1926, saw neighbours Inter defeat AC Milan 6-3. Inter have been tenants at the stadium since 1947.
The stadium has hosted the European Cup Final on 3 occasions, and was also a host ground for the World Cup in 1990. At one point its capacity was as high as 125,000, although in the wake of the Heysel disaster and in preparation for the World Cup this was reduced as the ground was made all-seater.
Location of the Ground in the City
The stadium is located to the west end of the city, in the district of San Siro (which lends its name to the ground), and is approximately 5km from the city center. Although officially renamed in honour of Guiseppe Meazza, a great of both Inter and AC Milan, it is still commonly referred to as the San Siro.
Getting to the Ground (By Public Transport)
The Stadium is reachable by metro and by tram. Take the metro line MM1 towards Molino Dorino and alight at Lotto-Fiera2. By tram, simply get on line 16 from Cathedral Square.
