Brief Ground Location
The Weserstadion is located on the north bank of the river, a couple of miles to the east of the city centre in Bremen. It's easily reachable by public transport - more details can be found on the About The Stadium page.
Brief Club History
Originally founded in 1899, Werder have a long and distinguished history, although they only adopted their current name Sportverein Werder Bremen (SV Werder Bremen for short) in 1920.
Winners of a Bundesliga title in each of the last three decades (in 1988, 1993 and 2004), the club have been regularly challenging at the top of the league for a long period, and have enjoyed something of a recent renaissance. Apart from a very poor season in 2008-09 when they finished 10th, Werder have been in the top 3 in the Bundesliga every year since they won the title in 2004.
The club have also won numerous German cups, most recently in 2008-09, as well as in 2003-04 (when they won the double).
Their European heritage isn't quite as distinguished, although they were winners of the Cup Winners Cup back in 1992, and they were also winners of the legendary Intertoto Cup in 1998.
