Up until recently there was a familiar face in the dugout at Unirea Urziceni for fans of English football - former Chelsea defender Dan Petrescu. He joined the club in 2006 upon their promotion to the Romanian top flight, and steered them to a tenth place finish in their first season. They've had a steady rise up the division since, finishing 5th in 2007/08 (and qualifying for the UEFA Cup as a result), as well as reaching the Romanian Cup Final.
In 2008 they won their first ever Romanian title, meaning that 2009 was their debut in the Champions League.

Brief Ground Location
Unirea's own stadium, Tineretului, does not meet UEFA's requirements for Champions League or Europa League football, and so they will play their matches at Steaua Bucharest's stadium in the Romanian capital instead.
Brief Club History
The club were founded in 1954, and have been playing at their Tineretului stadium since 1976. They have played for the vast majority of their history in the lower reaches of the Romanian leagues, gaining promotion to the Second Division in 1989, and joining the top flight for the first time in its history in 2003.
