1. Bundesliga

By Air

The Franz Josef Strauss Airport (MUC), was opened in 1992 and is now Europe’s 8th busiest airport and has good links with other German cities and the UK.

There are non-stop flights from the UK to Munich operated by

British Midlands (www.flybmi.com),

Lufthansa (www.lufthansa.com) and

United Airlines (www.united.com) as well as

FlyBe (www.flybe.com)

British Airways (www.britishairways.com) or

KLM (www.klm.com)

The airport is located approximately 17.5 miles north of Munich and is linked to the centre by S-Bahn suburban train lines S1 and S8, both with a journey time to the main train station of just over 40 minutes.

An airport bus runs to the city centre/main railway station (Hauptbahnhof), every 20 minutes between 6.20am and 9.48pm with a cost of €9.50 for an adult single, €15 for a return and €5 for a child single.

Finally, Ryanair (www.ryanair.com) offers cheap flights from Liverpool to Salzburg. Anyone wishing to fly Ryanair to Salzburg in Austria can catch direct trains to Munchen taking around 2 hrs at average costs of €50.

For more information on train services to and from Salzburg Airport see www.fahrplan.oebb.at/bin/query.exe/en (website of the Austrian Railway Company)

By Train

Munchen’s Hauptbahnhof (main station) is the second busiest station in Germany. Below the station and its forecourt there are also stations for the suburban rail network (S-Bahn) and underground (U-Bahn) as well as being a central hub for trams and buses

The station is located close to the heart of the city to the west of Karlsplatz and at the end of the pedestrianised area leading to Marienplatz.

Average journey time from the UK is between 15 - 20 hours and involves 3 or 4 stops. The most direct route that we could find is from Bolton via London on Eurostar train to Brussels, changing for the ICE to Köln and a final change to Munchen.

For further information please go to the website of the German Railway Company (available in English).

By Bus

It is possible to get to and from other bigger cities in Germany via long-distance bus services provided by Eurolines or Deutsche Touring GmbH.

There is e.g. a direct overnight connection service between London or Folkstone and Munich, the bus terminating near the stadium. A return ticket is available from around €100.

For getting to the online booking service of the Eurolines company (also available in English) go to www.touring.de

By Car

Munchen is easily accessible by road but whilst the stadium boasts the largest car park in Europe, parking in the city is hard to find.

For those that may wish to drive from the UK, the journey (from Bolton) is about 900 miles and the most direct route is via France (obviously), Belgium and Luxemburg, taking (according to the RAC route planner) about 15.5 hours.
