The metro station is located along the corridor connecting to the parking area P2 in Terminal 2. Operating hours are between 6am - 2am.
From the airport, take the metro line eight (€1.50) to Nuevos Ministerios, a transport hub 12 minutes away and you can change lines to reach the city centre. There is a supplement of €1 on the regular metro ticket for the airport line.
Buses # 101 and # 89, # 101 goes to the town of Barajas and Canillejas. A one-way ticket is €1.15, and multiple trip ticket of €5.35 allows 10 trips on the Metro network as well as on the buses. The service runs from 6:30am - 11:15pm. Bus # 89 goes to Plaza Colon with a fare of €2.50 – this Fare is inclusive of transport for two suitcases. Additional suitcases will be charged €2.50 per item. Operating hours are from 5:45am to 2a.m.
Taxis from Terminal 1 are to be found at arrivals at door 2. At Terminal 2, taxis wait at arrivals, in front of door 5 and at Terminal 3 they stand in front of door 7. By Train

There is a train connection service from the UK to Madrid, however, it is not cheap and a rather time consuming travel taking approx 33hrs each way. Take the Eurostar from London to Paris and then travel overnight from Paris to Madrid on the trainhotel ‘Francisco de Goya’ which leaves Paris every night at 19:43pm and arrives in Madrid (Chamartin Station) at 09:13am the following morning .
Return fares on Eurostar (2nd class) start at £59. The trainhotel fares start at £102 up to £501 depending on how early you book it and what type of sleeping arrangements you want i.e. a first-class sleeper is the dearest or a more realistic and affordable fare would be the £156 return for a recliner seat.

By Bus
Madrid has eight international and intercity bus stations. Many of the international busses arrive and depart from Estación Sur de Autobuses, on Calle de Mendez Alvaro which is connected to the rest of the city by metro (Méndez Álvaro line)
Buses to and from Barcelona are based from Avenida de America Bus Terminal, which is also connected to the metro system.
There is an overnight connection service from London to Madrid (to bus station Mendes Alvaro) including changing busses in Paris. The entire journey takes around 28 hrs each way and is available from £113.

To drive from Manchester to Madrid by car takes approx 28 hrs. The recommended route (according to uk.map24.com) goes via Portsmouth through France via Bordeaux via San Sebastián to Madrid.
