By Air

Most people heading to Alkmaar will be flying in to Amsterdam, and may well choose to stay in the city and travel to Alkmaar on matchday.

Schiphol Airport is approximately 18km south west of Amsterdam city centre. A shuttle bus service operated by Connexxions runs every 20 minutes daily from the airport to the centre, and the journey time is 20-30 minutes.

Journeys can sometimes take up to an hour, depending on traffic and the time of day. The shuttle bus also services many of the main hotels in Central Amsterdam. Costs for one-way/return journeys are around €12.50/€19.50.

Trains run between the airport and Amsterdam’s Centraal Station every 15 minutes and the journey takes about 20 minutes costing €3.80 for a single ticket (2nd Class). The airport's train station is under the main airport hall - trains to Amsterdam Centraal Station usually run from platform 3.

By Train

Trains run every 15 minutes throughout the day to Alkmaar from Amsterdam's main Sloterdijk station and Schiphol airport, and take around 35-40 minutes.

Please note that you should buy tickets before boarding - if you buy your ticket on the train you’re likely to pay almost double the normal fare.

JourneyPlanner9292 is a useful site for planning your travels around Holland - simply enter train station, airport, town or stadium information into their search and it'll provide you with the route.

We've been informed that the English version of the search is only a beta test version, but that it works well enough to be of use to travelling fans.
