Initially, all sides of the stadium were named by compass directions (North Stand and South Stand for the ends, East Stand and West Stand for the sides). In Feb 2004 the West Stand was renamed the Colin Bell Stand in honour of the former player.
The South Stand has been officially named the Key 103 Stand for sponsorship reasons since 2003, though this name is largely ignored by supporters. A portion of the North Stand is designated the Family Stand and is reserved for supporters with children. The East Stand is unofficially known as The Kippax after the corresponding stand at Maine Road.
All stands have adequate toilet and catering facilities and all have betting kiosks. The concourses have large plasma screens.
Away Supporters Information
Away coaches have their own segregated car-park in front of the Away fans stand. This is totally fenced off from home fans.
Away fans are located in one side of the Key 103 (South) stand at one end of the ground, in both the upper and lower tiers, where up to 3,000 fans can be accommodated (4,500 for cup games). The view from the stand is unobstructed although the leg room is pretty tight. There are spacious concourses, large plasma flat television screens showing the game and a good selection of food on offer, including chips and Chicken Balti Pies.
Gaining entry to the stadium is different than most other premiership grounds. Rather than give your ticket to a turnstile operator, you swipe your ticket across a sensor which then allows entry. Stewards are on hand if you have any problems. If you are an adult and you try to enter the stadium using a concessionary ticket the stewards will know and you will be ejected.
Away supporters are not held back after games, they have their own secure exits to car parks manned by plenty of police.
Matchday Arrangements
There are very few places to hang flags, but you do see the occasional few hanging from the tiers including the away section.
Roads are not closed off around the ground and if you are using public transport you could be sat for quite a while waiting to get away due to the sheer volume of traffic in general around the stadium.
Parking restrictions do apply on match days, with a residents-only parking system in place.
