The 27-000 capacity all-seater Hasely Crawford stadium is located alongside the Audrey Jeffers Highway which runs west from Port of Spain. Built as the National Stadium in 1980, it was renamed after the first person from Trinidad & Tobago to win an Olympic gold medal in the 100m in Montreal in 1976. The stadium doubles up as a concert venue, football ground, athletics stadium and general multi-purpose facility. It hosted the final of the 2001 FIFA U-17 World Championship as well as being home to several domestic football teams including Defence Force and Superstar Rangers. There is an 8-lane running track around the pitch, but the stadium is largely uncovered and low-rise which makes for a good atmosphere with unobstructed views throughout.
