Trinidad & Tobago v England
Sunday 1st June
Port of Spain
International Friendly
The second match in the friendly double-header sees the Three Lions take on the Soca Warriors on their own turf and in the idyllic setting of T&T.
In only the second match between the two countries, England will be hoping to replicate the 2- 0 victory achieved in Germany and retain bragging rights in many Premier League dressing rooms.
Famous for lots of things - rum, cricket, football, soca, the two islands of Trinidad & Tobago whilst only physically 12 miles apart are very different places to visit.
Tobago is 19km northeast of Trinidad. Trinidad.
Trinidad is surrounded by four bodies of water - The Caribbean (north), Atlantic Ocean (east), Gulf of Paria (west) and the Columbus Channel (south). Most of the country’s better known attractions are within an hours’ drive of Port of Spain (PoS). If driving, you can get from one side of the country to the other in less than 3 hrs. West of Port of Spain, a peninsula pointing towards Venezuela leads to Chaguaramas - one of the Caribbean’s chief yachting centres. North of PoS, the Saddle Road becomes North Coast Road that leads to Trinidad’s popular north-coast beaches. East of PoS is Piarco International Airport, and the key northern towns of Arima and Sangre Grande. Along the desolate east coast lies endless palm-fringed beaches. To the northeast is the remote Northern Range and the turtle-nesting areas of Grande Rivière and Matura. To the south of PoS are Chaguanas - the heart of East Indian Trinidad - and San Fernando - the industrial centre of the country.
Tobago: Most of the white-sand beaches are centred on the south-western side of Tobago, starting at Crown Point and running along a string of bays up to Arnos Vale.
In the Caribbean life is lived at the pace at which it should be, with people very rarely in a rush. There is always time to stop and talk or to spend time limin with friends.
If you're lucky enough to be making the trip, sit back, relax and enjoy.
