Getting there

BY AIR - Since the closure of Tempelhof airport on October 31st 2008, Berlin is served by two airports, Tegel and Schoenefeld.

Tegel is 4.5 miles northwest of the city centre. Jet Express runs buses to Unter den Linden and Alexanderplatz in the heart of the city and takes around 30 minutes. A taxi to the city centre costs around €25.

Schoenefeld, on the southeastern edge of Berlin, is mostly covered by budget airlines. A shuttle runs between the airport and the S-Bahn and railway station. From here the Airport Express takes you into Berlin in around 30 minutes. The S-Bahn will take about 10 minutes longer. A taxi to the city centre will cost around €35.

Berlin is serviced by a multitude of cheap-flight operators (those that are still operating!) including Air Berlin, Germanwings, Ryanair, and Easyjet.

BY TRAIN - The simplest way train is to catch the Eurostar to Brussels and then onto Berlin from there. This will probably take around 12 hours. See Eurotunnel and Deutsche-Bahn.

BY BUS - Eurolines run coaches to Berlin. For current prices and timetables visit their website.

BY CAR - The easiest way of getting there is via the Eurotunnel.

BY FERRY - You can get the ferry from Harwich to Hamburg or the Hook of Holland. Driving from the Hook of Holland will take around 12 hours. See DFDS (Harwich to Hamburg) or Stenaline (Harwich to Hook of Holland).
