 Baku or bust

Baku or bust

22nd October 2008

The 'Baku or Bust' Project for the Gôl Appeal was launched on the September 6th, 2008, in Cardiff.

The appeal will see fans drive from Cardiff to Baku before the Azerbaijan v Wales game on Saturday 6th June 2009, raising money for orphanages in the countries on the way. The vehicles will then be donated to good causes in Azerbaijan and the fans who take part will fly home after (hopefully!) Wales' win in Baku.

To help with fundraising for Gôl and this project, a series of question and answer events with ex-Welsh Internationals are being planned at Clwb Ifor Bach before our home qualifiers. Andy Legg was the first guest and our resident host Keith Cooper (former F.I.F.A. Referee) was the compere. Over 60 fans turned up and nearly £200 profit was raised...a good start.

We are getting vehicles relatively cheap and Dainton Brothers Garage have kindly agreed to service and repair vehicles free of charge, to ensure they are fit to travel the long distances.

Ten groups of fans already interested and we have purchased a red taxi relatively cheap - the first vehicle of our fleet!

There's lots of work to prepare for the trip and a lot of fact finding. Insurance, routes and accommodation for the trip. Ten different borders to cross on the trip, some will be easy, others problematic, we'll need a direct line to the Foreign and Commonwealth office!

Hopefully the trip will raise a lot of money and we'll also be donating the vehicles used to drive to Baku to residents there.

We are looking for sponsors now and we will be putting removable adverts from any sponsors on to the vehicles. Hopefully the press will be interested and we're sure it will be an unforgettable experience for all those who make the trip.

Updates will be added to the FSF Cymru site, so please bookmark it!

FSF Cymru are sending our own team, if you're interested in getting You might have already read about the Baku or bust project we're involved with which will see us drive across Europe and into Asia. If you want to get involved please email Paul Corkrey and he'll be happy to give you more detail.
