About FSF Cymru

FSF Cymru is the Welsh national arm of the Football Supporters' Federation, created to assist football fans from the principality at all international matches involving the Welsh football team.

Embassies are organised at Wales' away matches, in a similar fashion to the Nationwide FSF England Fans' Embassies, but on a slightly smaller scale. Domestic football queries or problems concerning football fans in Wales are dealt with separately, by the FSF Northern and North Wales Division. We also have a committee member on the FSF National council.

A committee consisting of a Chairman, Secretary, Treasurer, Travel Officer, FAW and Home Office Liaison officers, plus commercial sponsorship and media officers, is elected at an annual AGM every12 months, and organises regular meetings. FSF Cymru has a budget to adhere to for each tournament, which is managed by the committee, and can be further enhanced by sponsorship monies.

Well in advance of a Wales away fixture, FSF Cymru's Travel Officer contacts the British Embassy in the country which Wales are due to visit. Communication lines are opened and maintained throughout, with the consul in question assisting the FSF with useful, up-to-date information. Under circumstances where we feel there may be problems we send out a reconnaissance officer at least one month in advance, to meet the British consul, while the Welsh police are also contacted for information relevant to the security of supporters abroad.

FSF Cymru produce information booklets which are supplied free of charge to all supporters travelling to the fixture in question. The FAW mails them out to fans with match tickets, while copies are also taken abroad by FSF Cymru committee members who are on Fans’ Embassy duty. Booklets are also handed out on the street by FSF Cymru volunteers, ensuring they reach as many fans as possible.

The booklet features a 24 hour FSF Cymru helpline number, through which fans can call for assistance at any time – in 2007 they have also been available via this website, so fans can obtain them well in advance of Wales matches.

Due to our relationship with the relevant authorities abroad, FSF Cymru volunteers can then assist fans with any problems which arise. The FSF Cymru volunteers have access to all emergency telephone numbers, as well as instant access to the Welsh police, the Football Association of Wales and staff at British Embassies abroad. But, although we work closely with all the above bodies, we remain an independent organisation, run for the fans, by the fans.

We also run various campaigns. Our first was the ongoing and successful “Wear Red for Wales,” which encouraged fans to wear red in support of their country rather than sporting their club colours. We're now starting a new campaign called “Sing4Wales,” aimed at generating a better atmosphere at the Millennium Stadium.
