Wales take on the Netherlands on Wednesday 4th June and the team at FSF Cymru have been busy relaunching a campaign called 'Wear Red For Wales'. FSF Cymru's Paul Corkrey (@corkyfsfcymru) explains more below...
'Wear Red For Wales' has been launched as club rivalries have, unfortunately, often spoilt international fixtures. It put off a lot of fans from travelling to games, especially away games, and the campaign is aimed at uniting all fans behind the national team.
We hope more fans will feel comfortable attending games and attendances will increase as a result. Welsh league clubs have big fan bases and we want all those people to come to national games, not as a club supporter but, as a Welsh supporter. We believe 'Wear Red For Wales' will significantly improve the atmosphere at games and inspire the team.
FSF Cymru was created as part of the FSF to assist Welsh football fans at international games. Part of that remit involves attending regular meetings with the Football Association of Wales (FAW).
The idea of having the 'Wear Red For Wales' campaign came from the FSF Cymru delegates after complaints from fans that had been threatened for their team allegiances, and from seeing club shirts being worn at Wales’ games.
The FAW have always supported the campaign but for Euro 2016 qualification agreed to increase publicity and support. The FAW paid for a banner and, as you can see from the photograph, arranged for some of the players to endorse the campaign.
The players and FAW are firmly behind 'Wear Red For Wales' and the banner will be on show at all future Wales games.
However, it's not just about players and the FAW, we'd like fans of the national side to help spread the word too, share this page via Facebook or Twitter. Encourage your fans' group to back the campaign. Ditch your club shirts and wear red for Wales.
