And finally... the best/worst of 2016

And finally 2016 Round up

You can head to Match of the Day, Sky Sports or your newspaper of choice to celebrate the amazing technical feats, athletic prowess and skill shown across football in 2016. Not here, though. Here we'll be looking at worst misses, own goals and defensive blunders from the last 12 months...

1) And finallly... free kick routines

We've seen a number of teams trying out elaborate and pointless free-kick routines this year (we're looking at you, Brentford).  NAC Breda took up that trend with this terrible effort. Can you even tell what they were going for?

2) And finally... nowhere to hide

One small consolation for Ajax Cape Town goalkeeper Anssi Jaakola was that so few fans were present to witness this horror show. Incidentally, Ajax Cape Town would go on to lose this match 2-1 to Orland Pirates.

3) And finally... record breakers

Despite settling into mid-table ennui in the Bundesliga, Vfb Stuttgart still entered the record books at the end of last season They scored six own goals, the most in the league's 53-year history. It's hard to pick a favourite.

4) And finally... it pours

On another (less rainy) day, Spain may have won the Women's U19 European Championship this year. Their captain Nahikari Garcia should have equalised in the 92nd minute with this close range effort. She also missed a penalty earlier on. Gutted.

5) And finallly... a terrible, terrible penalty
Basque minnows SD Eibar are doing alright in Spain's second tier. Recently beating Real Sociedad 2-0. No matter how well things go this season, Pedro León will not be allowed to forget this craptacular penalty.
